2018 Australian Alumnus Awardees Announced

AAA-C would like to congratulate our alumni who have been nominated and endorsed for the 2018 Australian Alumnus Awards. Big congratulations to H.E Ms. Eat Sophea for the Alumnus of the Year Award, Mr. Bun Sothy for the Community Leadership Award, and Mr. E Bunthet for the Young Leadership Award.

Since 2014, the Australian Alumni Association of Cambodia has launched the Australian Alumni Award nomination to officially recognize the achievements and contributions of our fellow alumni members. Particularly, the first year in 2014, His Excellency Say Samal was nominated and received the award, in 2015 our awardee was H.E Tia Phalla, Vice Chair of the National Aids Authority, and last year H.E Mak Ngoy, Director General of Higher Education received the Alumnus of the Year Award; Mr. Chang Bunleang, Co-founder of Brown Coffee received the Young Leadership Award; and Ms. Tum Sisopheareth, Provincial Coordinator of Room To Read received the Community Leadership Award. This year, we also have the same 3 award categories to recognize the achievements and contributions of 3 outstanding fellow alumni. Each awardee is nominated by our fellow members and endorsed by the selection committee.

 [Alumnus of the Year Award]

The recipient of the Alumnus of the Year 2018 is H.E Eat Sophea, Under Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. She is from the public sector serving the government ministry and contributing significantly to Cambodia’s foreign affairs and international cooperation since 1985. She graduated with a master of Public Policy and Administration from Flinders University in 2004. Since completing her role as ambassador of Cambodia to Thailand in 2017, she has been serving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation where she responsible for Central, South and East Asia, and Oceania section of the ministry, which includes Australia. Particularly, she also has been very supportive and active in contributing to AAA-C by sharing her experience and inspiration with other young fellow alumni. 

[Community Leadership Award]

The recipient of the Community Leadership Award 2018 is Mr. Bun Sothy, Chief of Forestry Administration Cantonment based in Kompong Thom Province. He is an active member of AAA-C who is passionate about giving back to communities and protecting Cambodia’s forest. He has contributed to various social projects of the association such as “the Joy of Reading and Planting”. He has positive contribution to community and society through his work and commitment to livelihood improvement of the Cambodian people. He graduated with a master degree in Economics for Development from Queensland University, Australia. 

[Young Leadership Award]

The recipient of the Young Leadership Award 2018 is Mr E Bunthet, Co-founder of PCG Holding and Partner of REACHS. He has been in the private sector playing a founding and leading role in his professional endeavor by starting a business since he came back from Australia. Through his business foundation, he has proved to be outstanding in his practical experience and leadership quality by sustaining success in his profession and creating jobs for other young fellows. He also has been active in community work for common good of Cambodian children. He graduated with a master degree in Management (finance) in 2013 from the University of Melbourne, Australia.
